Showing dogs was the last thing in the world I thought I’d be doing when I retired from my 35 year stint as a professional florist!! Why? Because I am not one to prance around in front of a lot of people and a judge who is trying to decide which is the best dog in his ring! I got Phoebe, my first Havanese, because I had been breeding (3 litters) English Shepherds and decided puppies were going to be part of my future. Then, for a number of reasons, I decided to change breeds. (Not to worry, though we lost our first English Shepherd in March, 2016 to cancer, I still have her daughter, Meora.)
Yes, I LOVE puppies!
But here I am, 10 years later, in the thick of showing my dogs because I made some friends while showing Havanese and realized there was fun to be had!
So, starting with our most current show dogs and ending with my first show girl, Maxi, I bring you some of our successes!

A day to remember! Today in Monroe Michigan my Bred-by Bitch Meri, (Carneys Just A Bit Contrary Gardener) took Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, AND Best of Breed over five champions for a 5 point Major!!! This is my little scaredy cat that wouldn’t stand for any judge 6 months ago! Thank you so much Judge Carolyn Alexander for this win and for the nice comments.
THE SAME DAY…Phantom (CH Los Leyendas Magic in Carneys Garden) took Select Dog for a 5 point major! Thankyou Mary Dwyer for this wonderful (and gorgeous) boy! Thank you Judge Carolyn I. Alexander for this win. And HUGE thanks to Christy Collins (old photo below), Phantom’s new best friend, for taking him into the ring for me today!
Our boy Harrison, AKA CH Sherrex’s The Sun Comes to Carneys Garden, became an AKC champion at the in Miami Florida on April 1, 2017 at the very young age of 13 months!
His daughter, Meri, has 4 points to go for her championship!
